Rams push past Warriors in offensive contest

Box Score

The Ryerson Rams have a volatile offensive attack that can erupt at any time. Unfortunately for the Waterloo Warriors, one of those times was Saturday night.

Daniel Clairmont scored twice, and five other Rams had two-point nights as Ryerson topped the Warriors 6-3 on Saturday night at the Columbia Icefield Arena in Waterloo.

The loss is Waterloo's second in a row, dropping them to 4-3-0 on the season. The Rams, meanwhile, won their second game in a row to improve their record to an identical 4-3-0. The teams are now tied for third in the OUA West Division at the quarter-pole of the season.

Andrew Smith (Kitchener) registered a goal and an assist for the Warriors, while Justin Larson (Buckhorn) and Chris Chappell (Pickering) also added tallies. Mike Morrison (Hamilton) took the loss in goal, stopping 28 shots, while Troy Passingham made 37 saves in earning the win for Ryerson.

The Warriors came out of the gate strong in the first period, as they outshot the Rams 14-9. Larson's goal was the only one of the first 20 minutes, and the Warriors took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

The Rams exploded in the second period, outscoring the Warriors 4-1 in the middle frame. Ryerson got goals from Mitch Gallant, Domenic Alberga, Andreas Tsogkas, and Michael Fine in the second, while Chappell was the only Warrior to find the back of the net in the middle frame. The visitors scored a power play goal and a shorthanded goal - the first of two on the night - to take a 4-2 lead heading into the third.

The Warriors had a chance to get back into the game early in the third when they went to the man-advantage, but the Rams turned the tables when Clairmont scored a short-handed goal to make it 5-2. Smith and Clairmont exchanged late goals to round out the scoring.

The Warriors will now turn their focus to a northern road trip next weekend, when they travel to take on the Laurentian Voyageurs on Friday, October 31 before facing the Nipissing Lakers on Saturday, November 1. Catch both games on OUA TV.
