Warriors push Rams to OT, fall to Blues

The Warriors dropped both of their road games on their road trip to the big smoke but didn't go down without a fight in either contest.

On Friday, the Warriors outscored the Rams 20-8 in the final quarter to push the always competitive Ryerson Rams to overtime.  Unfortunately the Rams used their veteran presence to sink Waterloo in the extra frame, outscoring Waterloo 13-8, making it a 88-83 final.

Ryerson's efficiency from the field was the difference going 41.5% compared to 34.6% for the Warriors.

Nedim Hodzic (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) led all players with 21 points. Hodzic had 14 free throw attempts, knocking down 11 of them while adding to his OUA leading rebound total with 15 more boards. Justin Hardy (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) and Simon Petrov (Waterloo/Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary) rounded out Waterloo's offence with 18 and 17 points respectively.

The Rams got a balanced attack with four of their five starters reaching double digits with Jean-Victor Mukama leading the way with his 17 points.

On Saturday Waterloo gave up 26 points in the first and fourth quarters in an 81-70 loss to the Toronto Varsity Blues.  Waterloo got to within four after the third quarter, outscoring the Blues 26-14 in that frame but the Blues put the petal down in the fourth to earn the win.

Petrov led his squad with 21 points while Hodzic had 16. David Ramon Prados (Madrid/Virgen de Atocha (North Platte College)) put up 11 points and nine rebounds in a losing effort.

Toronto was led by Reilly Reid who put up 24 points for the second straight night.

The Warriors close out 2017 with a huge Battle of Waterloo contest on Friday night at Laurier.  Tipoff is set for 8pm.
